So I just watched the last episodes of MLP: FIM and I gotta say that I have mixed feelings on the series. It was funny and nice but it was far more hypocritical, willfully ignorant on matters, poorly written for many episodes, and excused many crimes & obvious mental issues of many characters. Worse was the blatant abuse of power and or position of characters as well as the arrogance of ponies as they see themselves as better than other creatures.
Even those of the three tribes had obvious superiority views of other types of ponies. An example of this would be how unicorns rarely ever got punished and instead were either left to go on with their life or were given a stern talking to at best. Pegasi and Earth ponies on the other hoof were more often than not given real punishments, like Cozy Glow who was imprisoned in Tartarus for nearly ridding Equestria, and possibly the whole world, of magic while at the same time working the xenophobic-superiority complex that ponies have to have other ponies follow her until they saw the other creatures they were blaming instead of Cozy as the culprits for the loss of magic and one pony who were working together to stop Cozy Glow's plan. Cozy didn't even realize that her plan would have stripped her of the magic that allowed her to fly. She had obvious mental issues and it seems like other characters in the show could see it to some degree when she was revealed as the culprit.
But when Tempest and Starlight Glimmer, unicorns, caused trouble their punishments were nothing. The first of the two assisted in the assault and conquerest of Equestria's capital, royals, and citizens and wasn't punished but instead was allowed to join the party after all was fixed.
While the later not only duped a town's worth of ponies into thinking they had to remove a part of themselves to be equal while she retained a position of power and secretly her own cutie mark so she could continue to take out her frustration of a childhood issue that wasn't a big deal and later, after the defeat of her first plan, she used time travel in an attempt to destroy the friendship of the Mane 6 just for revenge of stoping her previous crazed plan and nothing else. The process of which altered and possibly split Equestria's timeline into horrible realities. After all that she doesn't even get a lecture, she gets an apprenticeship for her display of magical abilities all because Twilight doesn't want to see such raw abilities go to waste.
Starlight's attempt at revenge was worse than what Cozy had done but instead of imprisonment, she is rewarded. I think I've laid out the flaws that are MLP: FIM. The show isn't a positive message of friendship. It's a bad influence of poorly written dribble that focuses on sales, placating outdated ways of thinking so parents who don't want to bother teaching better lessons or changing their own way of flawed thinking to improve their children don't have to bother with their educating responsibility as a parent, placating minority's with romantic aspects that have no real place in a child show that is supposed promote getting along with others and other positive lessons(let kids be kids and not deal with the drama that is romance), and encouraging willful ignorance & the horrible idea that you can get away with something if you're a certain type of person, "special", or play your cards right.
The show even messed up one of its best characters and a fan favorite, Discord. For a show that is supposed to be positive, they drag all the males in the show through the mud. Even the comic treats the characters better even though it is limited with what they can do because of the shows continuity. So they aren't really at fault for any lacking positives for the series or comics.
All in all, the only good thing from the series was the fandom as it picked up the slack that the show was.
